Nathanaël Gouin
Nathanaël Gouin’s second recital album " Bizet sans Paroles" (Mirare) was released in September
2020 to considerable critical acclaim and awarded a Diapason d'Or, with Le Monde deeming it "the
confirmation of a magnificent musician" and "an undeniable success".
Nathanaël’s first album, “Liszt Macabre”, released in 2017 had already met with enthusiastic reviews.
According to Diapason, “Liszt Macabre stands out as much for the relevance of its program as for the
perfection of its creation" while, according to Classica (which awarded it a Choc), "this sombre
register enables him to express his luminous talent to the full!”
Nathanaël Gouin is unquestionably one of the most original voices present on the current musical
scene.
The great Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires discovered him in 2014 and introduced him to the
public as part of the Partitura project, a concept that brings together musicians of different
generations sharing a stage, leading to major tours in Europe and Japan.
Nathanaël Gouin is a much sought-after soloist, performing in Europe, Asia and North America (USA
and Canada), in prestigious concert halls such as the Philharmonie de Paris’ Salle Pierre Boulez and
the Cité de la Musique in Paris, La Seine Musicale in Boulogne-Billancourt, the Salle Rameau in Lyon,
the Bozar and the Salle Flagey in Brussels, the Salle Pleyel, not to mention festivals such as La Roque
d'Anthéron, Radio France
Montpellier, or the Flâneries Musicales in Reims, Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse, and Les Folles
Journées in Nantes/Tokyo/Warsaw and Ekaterinburg.
Nathanaël Gouin has cultivated a wide repertoire of concertos from the 17th century to
contemporary creations, which has brought him stimulating partnerships with many musical
ensembles such as the Liège Philharmonic, the Les Siècles ensemble, the New Japan Philharmonic,
the National Orchestra of Île-de-France, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Sinfonia Varsovia, and the
Nancy Opera Symphony Orchestra.
In 2016, Nathanaël’s recording of Edouard Lalo’s Concerto for piano and orchestra with the Liège
Philharmonic conducted by Jean-Jacques Kantorow (Outhere record label) met with the highest
praise.
Chamber music is obviously an extremely important aspect of Nathanaël’s artistic life and he
regularly partners such renowned musicians as Renaud Capuçon, Augustin Dumay, Maria-Joao
Pires and Michel Dalberto. He also founded a duo with the violinist Guillaume Chilemme, and their
recordings of Ravel/Canal, Schubert and Beethoven trios were highly praised by the press.
Nathanaël Gouin began learning piano and violin at the age of three. He studied at the
Conservatories of Toulouse and Paris (CNSMD), at the Juilliard School in New York, and at the Freiburg
im Breisgau and Munich Hochschulen für Musik, the Villecroze Music Academy, as well as four years
of residency at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels. He has therefore benefited from the
advice of such great musicians as Maria-Joao Pires, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Avedis Kouyoumdian,
Denis Pascal, Rena Shereshevskaya, Michel Dalberto, Louis Lortie and Dimitri Bashkirov.
The winner of awards at many international competitions, such as the International Johannes Brahms
Competition in Pörtschach, Austria (First Prize), the Swedish Duo Competition (First Prize) or the
CIMCL (International Chamber Music Competition) of Lyon, Nathanaël is also a winner of the Banque
Populaire Foundation, of the Meyer Foundation, and is a resident artist at the Singer-Polignac
Foundation.
He is a frequent guest on television and radio programmes on France 3, Culture Box,
Radio Classique and France Musique as well as the Victoires de la Musique Classique.
